Iconic Piccadilly signage to be turned-off from January till autumn

For the first time, the advertising boards will not be illuminated since Second World War.

Commercial property heavyweight Land Securities will work from January for several months to replace the six digital screens with one large curved screen, to encourage new brands to advertise in the coveted location. The new screen to be erected will protect its heritage while keeping ahead of trends.

The only times, when the iconic signage were not illuminated since the 1940s are occasions like Winston Churchill’s and Princess Diana’s funerals. In addition, they were turned off as a mark of respect to mark Earth Hour.
