LED Vs. LCD Video Walls – which one to choose? – Part 2

We initially wrote an article on how to choose between an LED and LCD video wall and it can be accessed here. However, technology has been fast evolving and hence we have written the second part to that article here.

Feature LCD LED
Experience Much lower brightness, not so energy-efficient or cutting edge Bright, flexible, energy-efficient, best color accuracy, refresh rates and cutting-edge. Easily outperforms LCD
Bezels Appropriate for smartphones, computer monitors, and television screens. Mullions in the bezels interrupt the video images with large format video walls Appropriate for video walls with no visible bezels forming completely seamless video walls
Image Burn-in LCD monitors can exhibit ‘burn in’ of an image type over time No burn-in of images
Mouting Requires special pullout mounting brackets that allow precise physical alignment and are typically pretty thick Does not require pullout brackets and the entire display including the framing can be 3” thick or less
Calibration Requires frequent color calibration and physical alignment to keep them looking good Does not require color calibration frequently and the physcial alignment does not change over time
Flexibility of shapes LCD monitors prevent smooth curves Offers great shape flexibility inclding non-standard displays, curves, cylinders, think ribbons and outside corners
Processors LCD monitors used with complex, non-standard designs require expensive image processors with outputs for each display LED displays are controlled differently with a single processor and only a few outputs required to drive very large displays

Each of the displays have value. However, LED video walls are slowly edging out LCD video walls due to emergence in technology and manufacturing practices. Overall, LED offers energy efficiency with virtually no maintenance while installations are quicker and has a longer lifespan.
